Update on the latest in sports:
(11.19.07)
UNDATED (AP) -- The Buffalo Bills are the latest team to absorb a
sound beating by the New England Patriots.
Tom Brady threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns as the Pats
ripped the Bills 56-10, giving New England a 10-and-0 record as
they try to become the NFL's first unbeaten team since the 1972
Dolphins.
Randy Moss was Brady's favorite target, catching 10 passes for
128 yards and four touchdowns, three coming in the second quarter.
Brady has thrown 16 of his 38 touchdown passes to Moss.
The Patriots have scored at least 34 points in nine games,
winning by at least 17 points each time.
It's the most points scored by an NFL road team in 34 years.
The New York Jets pulled off the biggest upset of yesterday's
NFL schedule.
Mike Nugent hit a 38-yard field goal with 9:57 left in overtime
to give the New York Jets a 19-16 comeback win over the Steelers.
Pittsburgh led 16-13 in the closing stages of regulation before
Kellen Clemens put together a drive that ended with Nugent's
28-yard field goal with 23 seconds left in the quarter.
The 2-and-8 Jets were able to handle Ben Roethlisberger
(RAWTH'-lis-bur-gur) and Willie Parker. Roethlisberger was just
15-of-25 for 195 yards, one touchdown, an interception and a lost
fumble. Parker ran for only 52 yards on 21 carries as the Steelers
dropped to 7-and-3.
Pittsburgh's other losses have come against Arizona and Denver.
Dallas and Green Bay still share the NFC's top record after both
won yesterday.
Tony Romo threw for 293 yards and four touchdowns to lead the
9-and-1 Cowboys past Washington 28-23. Terrell Owens grabbed all
four TD tosses and finished with eight receptions for 173 yards.
The Packers improved to 9-and-1 with a 31-17 win over Carolina.
Brett Favre (fahrv) was 22-of-30 for 218 yards, three touchdowns
and no interceptions. His third scoring pass put the Packers ahead
28-3 early in the third period.
Adam Vinatieri hit a 24-yard field goal with four seconds left
to give Indianapolis a 13-10 win against the visiting Kansas City
Chiefs, ending the Colts' two-game losing streak. Vinatieri had
missed a pair of field goals in the game, six days after missing a
potential game-winning kick against San Diego.
Peyton Manning followed his career-high six-interception game
against the Chargers by passing for 163 yards, no touchdowns and
one pick. But the Colts still improved to 8-and-2 while dropping
the Chiefs to 4-and-6.
The Chargers followed last Monday's 23-21 win over the Colts
with a 24-17 loss to Jacksonville. David Garrard threw for 189
yards and two touchdowns in his first action in nearly a month,
helping the Jags get to 7-and-3. LaDainian had just 62 rushing
yards for the 5-and-5 Chargers.
Cleveland improved to 6-and-4 despite blowing a 13-point lead in
the fourth quarter of a 33-30 overtime win at Baltimore. Phil
Dawson tied the game with a 51-yard field goal at the end of
regulation before drilling a 33-yard kick with 9:10 remaining in
OT. Dawson's game-tying boot originally was called no good by
officials before replay showed the ball hit the curve of the
goalpost, thus clearing the uprights.
Derek Anderson was 24-of-38 for 274 yards and a touchdown for
the 6-and-4 Browns. Brodney Pool returned an interception 100 yards
for a touchdown that put the Browns ahead 27-14.
The New York Giants hung on for a 16-10 win at Detroit, giving
Big Blue a 7-and-3 record. Eli Manning was 28-of-39 for 289 yards
but got the Giants into the end zone just once, on a 10-yard pass
to Brandon Jacobs.
Jon Kitna threw a fourth-quarter TD but was intercepted on the
Lions' last two possessions, leaving Detroit 6-and-4.
Arizona is a .500 team at 5-and-5 after Antrel Rolle returned
two interceptions for touchdowns in a 35-27 triumph at Cincinnati.
Rolle almost had a third interception return for a touchdown,
bringing it back 71 yards. But the TD was nullified by a blocking
penalty.
The Seahawks beat Chicago 30-23 to stay atop the NFC West, one
game ahead of the Cardinals. Matt Hasselbeck passed for 337 yards
and two touchdowns without an interception, hitting D.J. Hackett
and Nate Burleson for scores. Hackett had nine catches for 136
yards for the 6-and-4 Seahawks, who fell behind 10-0 before
dropping the Bears to 4-and-6.
Philadelphia beat Miami 17-7 but finished the game without
quarterback Donovan McNabb, who sprained his right ankle in the
second quarter. A.J. Feeley engineered a pair of scoring drives in
the second half, ending one with a four-yard scoring strike to
Jason Avant that gave the 5-and-5 Eagles a 10-point cushion in the
fourth quarter.
The Dolphins remain the NFL's only winless team at 0-and-10.
Houston clamped down on Drew Brees (breez) and Reggie Bush in a
23-10 win over New Orleans, putting the Texans at 5-and-5. Brees
threw for 290 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice and
lost a fumble. Bush ran 15 times and grabbed 12 passes but finished
with just 104 total yards.
Matt Schaub passed for 293 yards and two touchdowns, including a
73-yard scoring toss to Andre Johnson in the first quarter.
The Saints turned the ball over five times in falling to
4-and-6.
Chester Taylor filled in nicely for the injured Adrian Peterson
while guiding Minnesota's 29-22 verdict over Oakland. Taylor had
202 total yards and three touchdowns to help his team beat former
Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Taylor ran 22 times for 164
yards, one reason why the 4-and-6 Vikes were able to overcome four
turnovers in the first half.
The 2-and-8 Raiders dropped their sixth straight.
Tampa Bay is the only NFC South team with a winning record,
improving to 6-and-4 with a 31-7 rout in Atlanta. Jeff Garcia threw
for two touchdowns and Ronde Barber returned a fumble for another
score while the Buccaneers made life miserable for Falcons
quarterback Byron Leftwich. Leftwich was just 15-of-28 for 106
yards and two interceptions before he was replaced by Joey
Harrington.
The Falcons are 3-and-7.
And St. Louis won a battle of the NFC's worst teams, beating San
Francisco 13-9. Torry Holt scored the lone touchdown on a
three-yard pass play from Marc Bulger, leaving both teams 2-and-8.
