Abused dog recovering with new owner

- There's a happy update to a horrific story we brought you last week. An abused pit bull named Duchess is recovering at her new home after the dog suffered terrible injuries with her previous owner.

The new owner of Duchess asked to not be identified, but they did show us how well she is doing. Duchess is a bit skittish still, but she does enjoy being comforted and touched by her new owner.

Her previous owner, Justin Malloy of West Melbourne, only had her for only two weeks when, according to police, he brought her back with numerous injuries consistent with being kicked extremely hard.  Photos revealed Duchess bleeding from her nose and her rear hind leg dislocated.

Police say that Malloy allegedly stepped in a puddle of her urine and became enraged, kicking the dog so hard initially he thought he broke his own foot.

Medical staff has since treated Duchess and brought her back to health.

Malloy, 20, has been charged with animal cruelty and is due back in court next month. If convicted Malloy could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
