KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A man's body was discovered Friday morning near a large cross outside a church near a Family Dollar store in Kissimmee.
Deputies were called to 690 Buenaventura Blvd. around 8:30 a.m. after a customer alerted a store employee about the body. “A customer talked to an employee, found the body initially and an employee called law enforcement,” said Osceola Sheriff’s spokesperson Twis Lizasuain.
When deputies arrived, they found an adult man deceased near the large cross in a park behind the store and across from Iglesia Cristiana Renuevo. They are calling this a death investigation. No other details have been released at this time, but deputies say the man's death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
"He looked like a young guy, to be honest. He had a red shirt and blue pants," explained Victor Hernandez, who works at Iglesia Cristiana Renuevo.
The church pastor, Jairo Garcia, said police copied surveillance video from the church. He said the cross was erected 18 years ago. “Everybody believe, everybody think the cross is a good symbol.” Pastor Garcia hopes for an answer soon, as well as extra patrols to keep everyone safe. “We need more police here, we need more police, more help for watch neighbor, we need prayer.”
The identity of the deceased was not immediately known. The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
