BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver in a hit-and-run that killed a Cocoa man.
Troopers say 72-year-old Hurshell Ed Cordell was trying to cross the street near the intersection of U.S. 1 and Fay Boulevard in Port St. John around 9:30 Wednesday night, when a white four-door Ford struck him.
Troopers say Cordell was hit a second time by a white pick-up truck.
Thursday morning they had both vehicles were locked up at the highway patrol post.
The woman who owns the car turned it over to investigators. She told them a friend had borrowed it.
“She received a phone call from that person saying that they wanted to return the vehicle to them and that they couldn’t stick around,” said Lt. Channing Taylor.
Troopers do not expect to charge the driver of the truck.
Taylor said investigators don’t believe he knew that he hit someone. The driver returned to the scene after learning of the crash on the news.
