OCALA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl in Ocala.
Deputies say they were called to a house on Hemlock Course Run on June 21.
2-year-old Journee Blyden wasn’t breathing when they arrived.
The girl had head trauma and was initially taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center and then flown to UF Health in Gainesville for treatment.
On June 23 doctors declared her brain dead and she officially died the next day.
During the early stages of the investigation, witnesses told deputies that Journee was playing and had fallen out of her crib.
However, the Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
The Sheriff’s office is following up on leads and talking to witnesses to figure out what happened to Journee.
If you have any information about her death, call Detective Frank Scala at 352-368-3548 or Crime Stoppers if you want to remain anonymous at 352-368-STOP.
