Felony charge follows stagging of teen in Daytona Beach

A 17-year-old boy in Volusia County is recovering after police say he was stabbed in abdomen while trying to stop a friend from getting into a fight with another teenager. Investigators say it happened around 5:15 p.m. on Monday, at a home on Sheridan Road, just west of Nova Road in Daytona Beach.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery and is now in stable condition.  Police say 16-year-old girl was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

While authorities wait for the teenager to recover in the hospital, they have been able to put together some of what led to the fight.  Some kids who were present when the alleged fight broke out told police it was the result of an ongoing turf war between some who live in the Pine Haven Apartments and some who do not.

One officer called this a case of bullying that turned criminal.  "It was a scary incident, because he was stabbed multiple times and serious injuries to the young man, and he has a long road to recovery," said Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt.
