SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla.(WOFL FOX 35) - A boyfriend is in custody after he allegedly lit his girlfriend on fire.
Jerod Redding, 29, is being held at Volusia County Jail on a $42,500 bond after investigators say he doused his girlfriend with rubbing alcohol, then lit her on fire.
Redding made his first appearance before a judge Tuesday afternoon. He cried as the judge read the charges against him: aggravated battery causing bodily harm/disability, bBattery on law eEnforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence.
According to investigators, the couple had gotten into an argument over allegations of infidelity. When South Daytona Police arrived on scene, they say Redding was combative.
According to his arrest affidavit, Redding took two officers to the ground and said, “You will have to kill me, have you ever shot anyone before?” It took three officers to get Redding into custody. His girlfriend was rushed to Halifax Hospital, before being transferred to Orlando Regional Medical Center due to the severity of her burns.
If Redding is able to post bond, the judge ordered him to not have any contact with his girlfriend or any witnesses (including the children into home ages 3.5 weeks to 5 years old) and he’s also not allowed to return to the scene of the crime. Investigators say they were called out to the same home a few weeks ago because of a loud argument, but there were not signs of physical abuse at that time.
