Police: Motorcyclist hit, killed during memorial ride

Daytona Beach police said a man was killed on his motorcycle during a memorial bike ride Friday night.

Police said they were called to South Atlantic and Goodall Avenues around 9:22 p.m., Friday in reference to a man that was struck while riding his motorcycle.

Police said 27-year-old Craig Devine was driving in a memorial ride with about 20-30 other bikers for a friend who had died a week ago.

The group was on the International Speedway Bridge when a light blue BMW almost struck  several riders in the group, police said.

One of the bikers decided to follow the BMW and he told police they reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

The biker told police the BMW went down a side street and turned around at 500 South Atlantic Avenue where the driver swerved into a group of riders and hit Devine.

Police said witnesses believed the driver was going over 50 mph when he struck Devine head on.

Devine was taken to Halifax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said three people in the BMW fled the scene, but a woman was caught and questioned.

Daytona Beach police are continuing their investigation.
