Newborn baby found abandoned on back porch of apartment

- A newborn baby boy was discovered abandoned on the back of a porch at the Buena Vista Point Apartments, according to deputies.

Orange County Sheriff's Office say they located the abandoned baby at 8:40 a.m. Friday morning.  The boy was taken to Winnie Palmer Hospital where he is in stable condition.

A 35-year-old man had just returned home Friday morning from his overnight shift, when something on his back porch caught his attention.
" As he's walking by this apartment, he glances over, because he hears a whimper or cry," said Orange County Sheriff's spokesperson Jane Watrel.
On a small loveseat he discovered something wrapped in a tan colored sheet. "So he thinks is this an animal , did someone just leave something here and it's a child," Watrel explained.
What he found was an Hispanic baby boy still, with an umbilical cord, only hours old.  He was wearing a black child sized t-shirt with a red Nike logo on it.
"I heard the helicopters and saw everyone moving around," said neighbor Anthony Mare. "It's a little saddening it tugs at the heart strings because you never want to see children left out in the open.  You never know what can happen in Florida."
Resident Glenn Douyard says, "I just heard sirens going on. I feel bad for the baby what did he or she do to deserve this. This newborn didn't know what's going on and I think the parents should get in trouble for it."
Right now, deputies are searching for the parents.
"We're grateful that the child was found is healthy and it's going to be ok," Watrel said.  "There is a safe haven law in Florida. And with no questions asked, that child could have been left at a hospital or fire station."
A fire station is less than a mile away from the apartment complex where the baby was abandoned.
