Victim of gas station assault, robbery speaks out

- Friday evening, Ormond Beach Police were still searching for a woman who robbed a man at a gas station Tuesday morning.

The encounter between the still-unknown suspect and 59-year-old William Manekas was caught on surveillance video.

Friday night Manekas told FOX 35 he hoped viewers would watch the video and help police identify his attacker.

"If you don't want to go through this, if you don't want your wife to go through it, these kinds of people need to be dissuaded from doing [these kinds of things] by getting caught," he said.

The surveillance video shows the stocky woman with short dark hair hovering behind Manekas at the checkout counter of the Texaco station at 5 S. Yonge Street.

"In the video after the fact I see that she's got a good view on my wallet.  I think she might have been thinking of taking me down there," Manekas said.

Police say the woman followed Manekas out of the store and physically attacked him as he walked to his car. She made off with cash and credit, debit, and identification cards.

"I'm thinking I would be able to protect my wallet and I did for a while, but eventually she got it off of me and took off,” he said.

The woman drove away in what appeared to be a black sedan.  Part of it can be seen in the surveillance video but it is mostly hidden by a gas pump.
Police are looking for a Hispanic woman between the ages of 25 and 35.  They estimate her height between 5’5” and 5’9” and her weight between 200 and 225 pounds.

Anyone with information about her identity or her whereabouts should call Ormond Beach Police or Crime Stoppers.
