2 dead, 4 more injured in fatal Lake County crash

The Florida Highway Patrol says the two drivers of a two-car crash in Lake County have passed after a deadly head-on crash in Lake County.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on County Road 19 and Ravenswood Road, near Altoona.  Four others were transported to hospitals as trauma alerts, troopers say.

Two boys are recovering at Arnold Palmer Hospital Tuesday morning. Troopers say an 8-year-old and a 12-year-old were in the car that crashed into a pickup truck.

The speed limit on that road is 45 miles per hour so troopers say when both vehicles crashed head-on that the damage was extensive.

Troopers say a 1999 Lincoln 4-door sedan was traveling southbound on State Road 19. The driver, a 33-year-old man, had the two young boys in the back with a 36-year-old woman in the passenger seat.

A 2005 Chevy pickup truck was traveling northbound. The driver was a 63-year-old man with his wife sitting in the passenger seat. The couple is from Tennessee.

Investigators say somehow the sedan, with the kids, veered off and crossed the center line and hit the truck head-on.

The 60-year-old female passenger in the pickup suffered serious injuries and is recovering at Ocala Regional Hospital.

The 36-year-old female passenger in the sedan is listed in critical condition. The two boys are listed in stable condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.
