Baby found dead inside car at middle school
A six-month-old baby was found dead inside a vehicle at Deltona Middle School.
DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) -
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the baby found dead inside a car at Deltona Middle School Friday afternoon.
The baby's name was Trenton Carson-Collins. He was six months old.
Investigators say the Deltona Middle School teacher who inadvertently left him in the car had been watching him for the past six weeks for a family member.
That teacher has been identified as 38 year-old Chanda Larson.
The Sheriff's Office is still investigating and Larson has not been charged.
An autopsy for the child is scheduled for Monday.
The baby was found dead Friday afternoon inside a vehicle parked at Deltona Middle School.
The Sheriff's Office says they received a frantic 911 call about the baby at 3:54 p.m.
It was left in a car seat in the backseat of an SUV that was in the front parking lot of the school campus on Enterprise Road. A school resource deputy rushed to the scene three minutes after the call came in, but it was too late. The baby was already dead. The Sheriff's Office's Major Case Unit has assumed the investigation into the death.
"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family and the Deltona Middle School community," read a statement released by Volusia County School District Superintendent James T. Russell. "This tragedy has broken the hearts of all of us in the school district. We will stand by the family with love and compassion."
