Tavares mayor's wife jailed over violating condition of pre-trial release

- As of Wednesday afternoon, Sharon Wolfe, wife of Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe, was sitting in the Lake County Jail after having been arrested at her home on Tuesday night.  This was the second arrest for Wolfe in a week.

"The mayor's wife was arrested over the holiday weekend for battery against her sister," explained Lieutenant John Herrell with the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

According to police documents, Sharon Wolfe got into an argument on New Year's Day with her twin sister. In the report, Sharon's sister said, as she began to leave, Sharon struck her on the head with an oscillating fan. The report also says as Sharon's sister tried to leave again, Sharon hit her twice over the head with a fraternity paddle. Sharon took five to six swings, according to the report.

"When Mrs. Wolfe was leaving jail, she received a 'no contact' order by the judge. She was to have no contact -- direct contact or indirect -- no contact with the victim," Lt. Herrell said.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said they receieved a report on Tuesday that Sharon was trying to contact her sister through a third party. Sharon is now charged with violating a pre-trial release Herrell said. "She was taken into custody last night."

Though the events happened in Tavares, LCSO said Tavares police officers turned over this active investigation to them to avoid conflict of interest   "That's not uncommon. I assume they wanted an objective set of eyes to take a look at it and handle it," Herrell said.

"All the allegations made against my client are not true," said Ben Boylston, attorney for Sharon Wolfe, "and I am confident when all the facts come out my client will be exonerated.  She did not violate the no contact order."

Wolfe's bond is set at $10,000. She's due back in court February 1.
