20-year-old UF student falls to his death

- Gainesville Police say a student at the University of Florida died after falling from the sixth floor of an apartment complex near campus.  First responders found Chance Wolf, 20, of Weston, just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, without a pulse, unconscious and bleeding profusely.

Investigators say he fell from six stories up at Gainesville’s Social 28 South apartment building next to campus. Wolf was taken to UF Health Hospital in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m.

“Everyone’s pretty sad,” said Ben Rachman.  He lives in the building but did not know Wolf personally; however, he says his death is still a shock. “It feels like a shock because it doesn’t feel like it could happen to anybody," he said. "But, it could happen to anybody, any day.”

Police said security video from several cameras shows Wolf get off the sixth floor elevator, walk down the hallway and open the double doors that overlook an interior courtyard.  Investigators said Wolf walked forward, apparently falling over the waist-high glass partition to the ground below.

Sarah Marinuzzi also lives in the building, but doesn’t know Wolf either.  “I’m really sad. I know he was in a fraternity. I know a lot of people are probably hurting today.”

Alachua County and UF crisis counselors responded to the building Sunday where they helped sixth floor residents, most of whom were Wolf’s Fraternity brothers.  Rachman said, “My prayers for them.”

It was not immediately known if Wolf lived in the building.  No foul play is suspected.
