ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings is launching another bid for the United States Congress. Demings announced her candidacy for Florida's 10th Congressional District on Monday.
The wife of Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings ran for that seat in 2010 and lost to Republican Dan Webster. Redistricting, though, has realigned thousands more Democrats into the 10th district since that election.
"I hear from people everywhere, who are struggling to make ends meet, who fear injustice in the criminal justice system, and who want to be able to afford college for their kids," Demings said. "They want someone who won't shy away from addressing these issues head on. Just as I took on crime in Orlando by straight talk and bringing people together, I will work to move our state and country forward in Congress. "
Demings also briefly ran for Orange County Mayor but dropped out.
