Boy possibly bitten by shark at Cocoa Beach

A 12-year-old boy suffered a six-inch laceration to his right leg while in chest-deep water in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday.   It happened around 3:15 p.m. at Sidney Fischer Park in Cocoa Beach.   Brevard County Ocean Rescue believes it may possibly be the result of a shark bite.

The boy's father pulled the child onto the beach and a lifeguard wrapped his leg to stop the bleeding.  When paramedics arrived, the boy was placed in an ambulance and rushed to Cape Canaveral Hospital.

Witnesses explained that they heard screaming and saw the boy being pulled out of the water, bleeding from his foot.  "We were swimming in the ocean, and then you heard the scream. Off in the distance, we saw a father carrying his son, and you could physically see there was some type of laceration on his ankle, blood was dripping from it," said one woman.

The boy appeared calm during the incident, according to those witnesses.
