Counselor accused of molesting student

A Central Florida school counselor is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Mount Dora police say 40-year-old Jason Roberts turned himself in on Wednesday.   Police had a warrant for his arrest after the mother of a Mount Dora High School student called the abuse line reporting two separate encounters between Roberts her child.
Police say both encounters happened in a classroom.

A spokesman for the Lake County School District said Roberts has been at Mount Dora High School since 2012 as a specialist who deals with gifted and disabled children.   That spokesman said Roberts has no prior disciplinary action on his record involving children, but he has been on paid administrative leave since August 30, in relation to an investigation on an unrelated issue.

Roberts faces two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
