Middle school principal arrested on DUI charge

Winter Springs police officers arrested a middle school principal over the weekend on a charge of driving under the influence.

Officers said Leon McCants, 40, failed a sobriety test he was given after being stopped along State Road 434 late Saturday night.  McCants is a principal at Teague Middle School in Altamonte Springs.  Police released video of McCants shortly after he was placed inside a patrol car, to be taken to the Seminole County Jail.

McCants was already under investigation by the Seminole County School District, accused of spending over $4,000 on restaurants and stores with his school's purchasing card, something that is not allowed.

District officials suspended McCants before his DUI arrest and announced on Tuesday that they will not renew his contract which ends June 30.
