One deceased, one critically injured after shooting in Ocala

The Ocala Police Department says that shortly after 9:00 p.m. on December 12th, there was a shooting in the 2200th block of NW 1st Avenue.

They say that two 18-year-old males were transported to a local trauma center for gunshot wounds. Jeffrey Scott was pronounced deceased early on December 13th and Marcus Cooper is being treated for a critical injury.

On the evening of December 12th, police say that there was an altercation off-campus following a sporting event at Vanguard High School. Several young males were involved. One was badly beaten and fled the scene.

The victim's two friends, driving a gold Toyota Camry, reportedly went to his residence to look for him. When they arrived, three males in a white Mazda blocked them in ear the entrance of Pavilion Oaks, exited the vehicle, and an altercation ensued. At that time, police say shots were fired.

Jefferey Scott and Marcus Cooper were the only two shot, says the police department, and they were quickly transported to the local trauma hospital after police arrived on scene and called for an EMS.

The Ocala Police Department say that they will not be releasing the names of the vehicle occupants, who fired the weapons, or how many shots were fired at this time. All relevant parties have been located and interviewed by detectives. Evidence has been collected and the investigation is ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
