SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

The historic "Senator" tree that burned down in January lives on.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that several clones of the 3500 year old tree were produced about 15 years ago.

On Tuesday Seminole County commissioners agreed to spend about $7,000.00 to buy one of those clones. The sentinel says the 40-foot tall off spring will be planted at Big Tree Park in Longwood as a way to honor the former tree.

Sara Barnes, 25, of Winter Park, was arrested for starting the fire that destroyed the 118 foot tall Bald Cypress.  Barnes told investigators she set the fire while trying to use illegal drugs.
