Pilot makes emergency landing on roadway

VIERA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A Brevard County roadway was turned into a runway by a quick-thinking pilot who  ran into trouble in the skies over Viera.

Victor Hernandez, identified as an 89-year-old former World War II pilot, landed on Stadium Parkway Friday afternoon when he said his plane's engine failed.  He said he looked for an open space and saw the road was clear of cars, so he brought the Light Sport plane in for a safe landing near the Brevard County Government Complex.

There was one passenger onboard.  No one was injured.
