DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Daytona Beach police say 24-year-old Sonny Demichele was stopped at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Main Street in front of a gift shop around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.  Witnesses said Demichele started to rev the engine of his Pontiac Trans Am and squeal the tires, then hit the gas.  Demichele told police he lost control and plowed into the store, hitting two people.

The two pedestrians, identified as Jessica Geenty, 27, and David E. Scott III, 30, are visiting from North Carolina.  Both were still in the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, suffering broken bones and lacerations.

Tatyana Hoke, who works at the gift shop, said got back from a break just minutes after it happened.

"They basically got pinned inside the store, and against the wall and the glass that broken with their bodies," she said.

Inside the store, glass and swim suits are still all over the place, and there's a gaping hole where a wall used to be.

We went by Demichele's Port Orange home on Wednesday, but no one answered.

Police said it will take weeks to figure out all the details adding that it's likely Demichele will be charged.
