KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Kissimmee police say a young girl told them she woke up early Sunday morning to find a stranger standing in her bedroom.   They say he broke into the family's home and was doing something sexually inappropriate in front of the child.

"It makes you sick," says Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan who lives in the Orange Gardens neighborhood where it happened.  "It's an older, established neighborhood.  Little by little, more families with children are moving in."

Swan describes the neighborhood as a quiet place.   "I've lived here since 1983. We have very little crime activity.  It's been that way since we moved in."

Police won't say how the suspect got inside the home, but it was well after midnight when the family was fast asleep inside.

Neighborhood resident John Pryor feels the suspect must be someone who knows the area well.   "That's crazy. That's not right," he said.

Police say the man did not  touch the little girl.   While the child is working with investigators Pryor feels he and his neighbors need to do their part to watch out for one another.

"People need to be more aware of their neighbors in the neighborhood."
