Brush fires ignited after storm

Brush fires ignited after storm

Posted: Updated:

Three separate brush fires kept firefighters busy on Monday afternoon after heavy storms swept through Volusia County and Daytona Beach today.   No one was evacuated and no homes were in danger at any of the fires.

Firefighters from the Daytona Beach Fire Department worked all afternoon on three brush fires in the LPGA and Williamson area and near the Indigo Lakes Subdivision.

The fire behind Vince Carter's restaurant off of LPGA along with the fire in the Indigo Lakes subdivision have been extinguished and is 100 percent contained  at this time.  Both fires were around half-an-acre in size.

The 1-acre fire near Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center off of Williamson Blvd is also 100% contained.  Due to the thick brush, access to the fire was difficult until the Florida Forestry Service arrived and placed fire lines around the fire to contain it.

Lighting strikes are believed to have been the cause for each of the fires that were ignited in the City of Daytona Beach today.
