ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Ormond Beach Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Thursday morning. A lone suspect entered the bank and approached the counter.
The suspect abruptly jumped over the counter, grabbed a cash drawer from the teller line, and emptied it into a bag he carried. The suspect then ran from the bank. He never showed a weapon or implied that he had one. Ormond Beach Police units quickly set up a perimeter assisted by units from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, Holly Hill and Daytona Beach Police. The Sheriff's helicopter and a K-9 unit are still checking the area at this time.
The suspect is described as a heavy set black male approximately 6'3 inches tall and about 285 lbs. He was wearing a long sleeve blue shirt and blue jeans with some type of a yellow vest on similar to a traffic safety vest. The suspect also wore a black and yellow ball cap. He was last seen running north from the bank parking lot.
