PALM BAY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 News) -
Detectives are currently investigating a robbery in which an elderly woman was injured after the suspect grabbed her purse and fled in a vehicle. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. outside a CVS located at 1101 Malabar Rd. NE.
The victim, identified as a 78-year-old woman, was injured and transported to the hospital with a serious head injury.
Detectives said the victim saw the suspect's car pull into the CVS at the same time she did. A man got out the same time she did, catching up to her and snatching her purse before she could make it to the front door.
"A brief struggle between the victim and the suspect occurred, which resulted in him pulling the purse off the shoulder and forcing her to the ground," said Ken Shedrick with the Palm Bay Police Department.
The suspect was possibly a short Hispanic man, possibly driving some type of black vehicle, according to investigators. Witnesses said there were three other white men and one white woman with the suspect at the time of the robbery.
"It's possible this is not the first time they did this, and it's possibly they are going to do this again," said Shedrick.
