OCALA, Fla. (WOGX FOX 51) -

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a crash in northwest Ocala involving a small experimental sport aircraft.

The plane and 2 occupants flew out of northwest Ocala on Thursday, August 30, around 4 p.m.. Their final destination was another airfield in Marion County.  When the plane did not arrive to its designated landing area, family members became concerned and called MCSO around 8 p.m.

The crash site was located in a field on a horse farm near 2001 NW 110th Avenue in NW Marion County. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.  They are identified as Gilbert Jennings, 53, and Catherine Jennings, 50, both of Morriston.

The FAA is taking over the investigation to determine how the plane crashed. Anyone with information or may have witnessed the crash can contact Detective Erik Dice at 352-368-3545.
