Staff members at Osceola Animal Control have taken a 4-and-a-half week old puppy born without fully developed front legs into their care.
Oscar, a mixed-breed puppy, is named after Olympian Oscar Pistorius, the South African track star who competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games wearing prosthetic legs.

"At this point, we have to manually adapt and manually help him doing exercise with his legs to give him strength and keep him in the proper position," said Vickie Dryer with Osceola County Animal Control.

Standing, walking, running, and eating are more than a challenge for this canine. Growing will be painful and problematic, but he doesn't seem to care, as he bounces around on his belly.
"His personality is wonderfully sweet, very outgoing. He's brave, just playful. He's a normal puppy," said Dryer.
The next challenge was getting Oscar adopted.
"It's very difficult for us to decide who is right for him. Right away, your heart goes out and says, 'I want to save him, but are you really able to?'"
The huge commitment requires more care, around the clock attention, and added medical expenses. With special needs, Oscar needed someone special to care for him. That's exactly what little Oscar got when a staff member fell in love and adopted him.
