Divers find submerged car and body

Posted: Updated:

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office's Dive Team has located a car and a body submerged in a pond just east of an apartment complex where a missing Ormond Beach woman resides.

The vehicle found in a pond at the corner of Hand Avenue and Williamson Boulevard near Ormond Beach belongs to 79-year-old Rose Bruce.  Investigators will not confirm if the body is that of Bruce.

After three days, there have been no solid clues as to what happened to the Bruce.  All indications are that she drove off from her apartment Monday night at the San Marco complex of her own volition.

Investigators know Bruce has had some recent bouts of forgetfulness that could explain her disappearance. Family members reported Bruce missing at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

On Thursday, investigators released surveillance video of Bruce in the parking lot of aWalmart on West Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach after she got off work there Monday night.  The video shows her walking along the sidewalk clutching a pocketbook and packages, lingering by her car and finally getting in and driving off.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
