DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the robbery of a taxi driver that happened Monday morning near Daytona Beach. The suspect threatened the taxi driver with a sharp object and fled on foot with stolen cash. The victim was not hurt and the suspect was not found.

The victim called the Sheriff's Office at about 6:20 a.m. to report that a customer had held a sharp object to his throat and stole some cash from him. It was originally reported that the weapon was a knife, but it might have been a sharp piece of metal instead.

The victim said that he had picked up the suspect at the Last Call bar on North Nova Road in Daytona Beach. When the driver got to the intersection of David Drive and Old Kings Road, the suspect threatened to kill him and demanded his money. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect used athletic tape to secure the driver to his steering wheel and then fled on foot. Once the driver pried his hands free, he called for help.

The suspect was a white male in his 30s, about 5'7" and 130 pounds. He had a moustache and goatee and slicked-back brown hair. He was last seen wearing a light tank top and dark, knee-length jean shorts.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
