Deputies investigate home invasion and bank robbery
ORANGE CITY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a shooting at a bank which may be connected to a home invasion.
Deputies on Wednesday afternoon responded to the shooting inside a TD Bank at 2240 S. Volusia Avenue in Orange City, shortly after a home invasion was reported in which a man was tied up and robbed at a home at 328 Colomba Road in DeBary.
Investigators said that, around 12:45 p.m., a man called 911 reporting the break-in and armed robbery at his home. He said the suspect left with his white Lincoln Town Car. Twenty minutes later, there were reports of an armed robbery at the TD Bank. Witnesses at the bank said armed men fled the scene in a car which fit the description of the one reported stolen.
"Deputies and police officers quickly made the connection between the home invasion and the bank robbery and canvassed the area for the stolen car," read a statement sent to FOX 35 by Brandon Haught with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. "It was found abandoned behind the Bravo Supermarket at 2413 Enterprise Road, Orange City. The suspects had switched cars in the hopes of thwarting their pursuit."
Deputies eventually caught up with the suspects who were traveling south along U.S. Highway 17/92 into Seminole County. The suspects then wrecked alongside the highway near an Interstate 4 on-ramp at about 1:17 p.m. They fled on foot into the nearby woods, but law enforcement flooded the area and the three men were captured.
One was bitten by a police K-9 and was later transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for treatment. No one else - neither the suspects nor any of the victims - were injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the car accident.
