GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WOGX FOX 51) -
Detectives with the Gainesville Police Department are investigating a murder in the area of 1116 W. University Avenue.
A 911 call was received around 5:30 Friday morning reporting that a man was laying face-down on the ground and another man was rummaging through the victim's pockets.
The victim, described only as a black man, was transported to Shands Hospital where he died.
The suspect left the scene prior to the officers' arrival. He is described a white man who stands approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and has a large build, bald head. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a flowered shirt.
A white "box-style" van, possibly a construction van was also nearby. The victim is described as a black man in his 50s, approximately 5'10", heavy build with gray hair and a moustache. A photo of the victim will be released at a later time if his identity is not confirmed.
