Military veteran William Overbay, 72, has never had problems in his neighborhood -- until now.
He says when he woke up Thursday morning and went outside to get his mail and newspaper, he found the words "Obama 4 Life" spray painted on his driveway and his Mitt Romney signs torn, burned, and painted over with metallic paint.
More than a dozen small American flags also were burned in his yard.
"These are the stems to the flags. I fought for this country," Overbay, a former airman, told Fox 35's Tracy Jacim with tears in his eyes.
"To have people do this, it's disgusting, absolutely disgusting that somebody would do this. Burning a flag in this country, in this great country? Why would you want to burn a flag in this country? It's disgusting."
Howie-in-the-Hills Police say they are investigating. The suspect apparently used accelerant to start the fire that burned the flags.
"My whole life has been dedicated to this great country. I don't want it abused, not by clowns like this, not by stupid people like this," Overbay said. "I want people to be aware that they have constitutional rights and exercise them."
Overbay plans to replace the destroyed flags and signs.
