Plea deal struck in Cady Way Trail slayings

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

One of two men accused of murdering a couple of Winter Park High School students earlier this year pleaded guilty on Friday in the double-murder case.  It was a move which surprised prosecutors and those close to the investigation.

In return for the guilty plea which includes a life sentence, Jesse Davis has promised to provide details of what happened the night 16-year-old Nicholas Presha and 18-year-old Jeremy Stewart were killed.

Davis, 31, has been previously diagnosed as a delusional schizophrenic.  A series of competency hearings had been held over the last 4 months to determine if he was fit for trial.

Davis is one of two men accused of killing the two teens. Prosecutors said Davis and 32-year-old Hector Rodriguez fatally shot the boys at an apartment complex and then burned their bodies along the Cady Way Trail in East Orange County in April.

According to an investigation by the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Presha and Stewart were in the wrong place at the wrong time when they attempted sell a stolen gun to Davis and Rodriguez.

During a hearing in July, prosecutors said they would not seek the death penalty if Davis and Rodriguez were convicted of murder.  Rodriguez is set to go to trial next year.
