A teen was struck and killed and another seriously injured Sunday afternoon as they tried to tow a stalled all-terrain vehicle from the middle of a Lake County roadway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Dustin Michael Thompson, 16, of Ocoee was struck by a 2008 Ford SUV as he and Alyssa McClelland, 14, of Clermont were trying to hook a rope between two ATVs, one of which had stalled in the middle of State Road 33 near County Road 561.
McClelland was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando in serious condition.
The driver of the SUV, James Everett Bryant, 57, of Bartow, was transported to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.
Charges are pending in the fatal crash.
