Man fired into ex-girlfriend's home with kids inside, deputies say

A man is facing felony charges after investigators say he shot into his ex-girlfriend's Deltona home while she, her mother and two young children were inside.

Volusia County deputies say just before midnight Sunday, Abdul Ayanwale, 22, fired three rounds through the front door of the Apollo Avenue home.

The bullets passed through the home and shattered the back sliding glass door.

Inside were Ayanwale's ex-girlfriend, Emily Wright; Wright's mother; and a boy and girl, 3 and 11 months. The girl is Ayanwale's daughter.

Wright told investigators that before the shooting, she and Ayanwale had been on the phone, and he had been demanding to meet with her. He showed up at the home and twice demanded she open the door or he would shoot it, she said.

While still on the phone with Ayanwale, Wright said she heard three shots and what seemed to be the sound of Ayanwale running from the scene.

A neighbor was surprised at the incident.

"They were good honest people and everything," Nick Nelms said.

No one was injured in the shooting.
