DELAND, Florida (AP) -- A Central Florida woman who was arrested in a hit-and-run crash that killed one teen and injured another apparently committed suicide.
Volusia County Sheriff's deputies found Danielle Halverson, 50, dead in her bedroom Monday after a friend got worried when he couldn't reach her. He called the Sheriff's Office, reporting that Halverson had been depressed lately and had spoken of suicide.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Halverson left a suicide note.
She was arrested in October and charged with leaving the scene of a March 17 crash that killed Juliana Taylor Hobbs, 14. She was also charged with tampering with evidence. Records show she told deputies the crash might have happened when she reached for her cell phone.
An autopsy and toxicology tests will determine how she died.
