BOSTON ( -- In an appearance on MNCBC's "Morning Joe" on Friday, former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank said he has told Gov. Deval Patrick he is interested in being appointed interim senator, replacing Sen. John Kerry.

Kerry is President Barack Obama's choice to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Frank told the show he initially wasn't interested in the seat, but recent developments in the fiscal-cliff saga have made him re-evaluate.

"Two weeks ago, I said I wasn't interested," Frank said. "That deal now means that February, March and April are going to be among the most important months in American financial [history]."

Patrick has said he doesn't want his interim appointee to run for the seat in a special election, which is expected to happen in the spring.

Frank has said he wouldn't be interesting in running for the seat.

"It's only a three-month period; I wouldn't want to do anything more," Frank said. "I don't want to run again."
