VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
The exit ramp at Interstate 4 at U.S. Highway 92 was shut down this morning after a woman walking in the inside lane of eastbound U.S. 92 was struck and killed by a car near Daytona Beach, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers have identified the victim as 47-year-old Bridgett Davis.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Davis, at about 4:40 a.m., remained on the scene. But before authorities could get there, two other vehicles struck Davis and left the scene. Witnesses told investigators that a blue vehicle and white vehicle were involved.
There are no charges pending against the first driver. Troopers say the drivers of the second and third cars that also hit Davis never even bothered to stop. As investigators look for those drivers, they say charges are indeed pending against them.
As of the publishing of this report, FHP could not tell FOX 35 why the victim, from Hawthorne in Alachua County, was in Volusia County and walking the dark and dangerous road in the wee hours of the morning. They continue to investigate.
