Authorities are still searching for two men this morning in connection with the shooting of a mother as she drove her 4-year-old daughter to kindergarten.
Lady Lake Police say they are looking for two men in the town's first shooting of the year. One is described as a young, white man between 5-feet-7 and 5-8, 150-to-175 pounds, blond spiky hair and dark eyebrows, one of which has custom slashes through it.
At about 8 a.m. Monday, the mother and her 4-year-old daughter were in a car, leaving the Hidden Oaks subdivision to take the girl to school.
The victim had stopped at a stop sign at the entrance to the development when two men walked up to her car. She rolled down the window and was shot in the left shoulder, police say.
"We don't believe this to be a random violent act at this point. A preliminary investigation indicates the victim was targeted," police Det. Ron Michaud said.
The victim denies knowing the suspects.
"It's very shocking. Especially when it's just one street behind me," neighbor Gary Champagne said. "There's close to home, and then there's right at your next door neighbor's door.
"We're definitely not going to sleep so easily tonight," he said.
