Teen dies, others sickened after ingesting 'unknown substance'

A 17-year-old boy is dead and three people still were hospitalized this morning after authorities say a group of five young people overdosed on a mysterious substance early Sunday morning.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, Orange County deputies responded to a residence on the 14300 block of Vista Del Lago Boulevard and found five unconscious people in their late teens and early 20s. They were taken to area hospitals, where three were in critical condition and two in stable condition.

Early Sunday evening, one of the critical patients died at Florida Hospital Celebration, authorities said.

Meanwhile, two others have been upgraded to stable condition, and another of the patients has been released.

"Yeah, I'm not that shocked. I expected this to happen," a young woman who lived in the neighborhood told Fox 35's Ray Raimundi. "It's been crazy."

The teens and young adults ingested the substance, which authorities have not identified, on their own, deputies said. They are treating the incident as an active death investigation. Check back for updates.
