CLERMONT, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Lake County sheriff's deputies on Sunday responded to reports of a car that was running but stopped in the middle of a road in Clermont.

Deputies found the yellow, Dodge Neon near the intersection of Pine Island Rd. and Regal View Loop around 8:30 p.m., with two adults passed out on top of each other in the front seat and an infant in the back seat.

When emergency crews arrived, they shifted the car into the park position, shut off the car, and removed the keys.

In a report, the responding deputy described the female driver's eyes as "droopy" with pupils that were "constricted," and that her speech was slurred.  The deputy said the male passenger then woke up and he also slurred his speech.   The driver and passenger were identified as Amber and Tony Cox, respectively.  Both are 29 years in age.

Tony told the deputy that he was driving the car but became tired and began drifting off the road, so he asked Amber to drive.

In a report, the deputy noted that the Amber's license had been suspended for failure to pay and that she had also just been released from jail on bond, for driving with a suspended license.

Upon getting consent to search the car, the deputy said he discovered pills in a Crown Royal bag, including alprazolam (Xanax), oxycodone, and diazepam.  In the glove box, the deputy said he found a digital scale.

Both were placed under arrest and charged with child neglect, possession of narcotics without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Additionally, Amber Cox was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence, while Tony Cox was charged with allowing an unauthorized person to drive.

Both were booked into the Lake County jail.  Amber Cox remains in the jail on a no-bond status.

The 3-month-old found in the back seat of the car was turned over to the woman's grandfather and the Florida Department of Children and Families was contacted.
