No leads in south Phoenix drive-by shooting

Posted: Updated:

Police are still searching for four suspects involved in a drive by shooting. That shooting left one woman dead.

Police are at a standstill and they need help solving the case. County Attorney Bill Montgomery has doubled the reward money.

Authorities are now offering $2,000 for any information that helps them catch the shooter.

51-year-old Sandra Johnson was the innocent victim of a drive-by shooting on Feb. 1, near 14th Street and Roeser.

"When I heard it, you know it just hurt me," said Rev. Bernard Black. "She was a good person."

Dr. Bernard Black is the reverend at South Phoenix Baptist Church. He's been with the church for 48 years. He knew Sandra and he even baptized her when she was a baby.

Sandra was shot and killed as she was talking to friends standing in a front yard. Three others were also shot -- 45- and 58-year-old women and a 42-year-old man. A 19-year-old also standing outside wasn't hit.

"Our young people are on a hate ride and they don't care who they shoot. Anybody."

We asked county attorney Bill Montgomery if crime is becoming an issue in south Phoenix.

"We had a drive-by shooting so yes there is a problem, and being able to adequately identify the problem, so we can come up with solutions," says Montgomery.

"We just have to keep praying and every Sunday I keep preaching to them, that's my job," says Rev. Black.

Police are searching for four men driving a dark green Ford Expedition.

"I baptized a lot of them and I've buried so many of them, I've buried so many of them and I keep on burying them and every time I bury them a little bit of me goes out with them."

It may be that witnesses are afraid of retaliation, and that's why police are having trouble getting information on this case.

Anyone with information should call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
