Wildfire burning in Prescott National Forest

Posted: Updated:

A wildfire is burning in the Prescott National Forest, south of Prescott near Wilhoit.

The blaze is in a remote area and is not threatening any structures.

Forest officials say the roads in that area are very difficult to drive on at night, but firefighters made it up there to see what they're dealing with.

"There are no active flames, no heat, no threat to the area. For the safety of the firefighters they are to come back to the station and go back out tomorrow morning during the daylight hours to assess it," said Debbie Neeley with the Prescott National Forest.

When crews arrive Tuesday they will likely be able to determine how many acres burned and what sparked the blaze.

Update: The "Crooks Fire" has burned 100 acres. Firefighters spent Tuesday securing the perimeter and all hot spots have been extinguished.

The cause is still under investigation.
