NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Authorities say a female correctional officer has been charged with rape after having sex with a male inmate at a maximum-security state prison in the Hudson Valley.

State police say Tyshinia Love Brewster, 39, of Poughkeepsie was arrested at her home Wednesday.

Along with the rape charge, she also faces an official misconduct charge.

Officials say Brewster had been involved in a sexual relationship with an inmate at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, where she has worked for the past 7½ years.

Police say the two would meet during her shift assignment in the cell block where the inmate was housed and the relationship had gone on since 2010.

Authorities say the inmate, imprisoned as a result of a felony conviction out of New York City, has been transferred to another prison.

Police say Brewster is about six months pregnant with the inmate's child.

She's free on her own recognizance. It couldn't be determined if she had a lawyer.

It is the second recent case of a prison guard becoming pregnant with an inmate's child.

Earlier this month, it was alleged that a federal prison guard had an illegal affair with an inmate convicted in one of New York's most notorious police killings and is pregnant with his child, according to court papers.

Nancy Gonzalez, 29, was arrested on charges she intentionally engaged in a sex act with Ronell Wilson while working the night shift at the Metropolitan Detention Center. She became pregnant in June, a few months into the affair, according to court papers.

Brewster is also facing disciplinary charges out of the inspector general's office.
