Orlando Magic trade J.J. Redick, 2 others to Bucks

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

One of the most popular players on the Orlando Magic is no longer a member of the team.  The Magic agreed to trade veteran shooting guard J.J. Redick just before the NBA's deadline on Thursday.

Redick, center Gustavo Ayon, and reserve point guard Ish Smith are heading to the Milwaukee Bucks, in exchange for guards Doron Lamb and Beno Udrih, as well as forward Tobias Harris, the Associated Press reports.  Josh McRoberts was also traded to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Redick is in the last year of his $19 million contract.  He was a restricted free agent when he signed an offer sheet with Chicago in the summer of 2010, but Orlando matched his deal. With no restrictions after this season, the Magic had no guarantee that he would re-sign.  The team did not want to "overspend," or see him walk away this offseason with nothing to show for it.

Redick did not travel with the team to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday.  He has said in the past week or so that he "understood" the difficult personnel decisions that had to be made.

The former Duke University all-American has been with Orlando since being drafted in the first round in 2006.
