A mother was arrested and charged with child neglect after Seminole County deputies say she ordered her son to sleep in the woods behind a convenience store as punishment late Sunday night.
Deputies say Tiffany Nicole Buffkin, 32, blamed her son for a "disturbance," and his punishment was to sleep in the woods behind a convenience store, which the Orlando Sentinel reports was a 7-Eleven in Sanford near Interstate 4.
The boy was left alone at the convenience store for at least 30 minutes with no knowledge of where his mother was, an arrest report states. While a responding deputy was talking with the boy in the parking lot, Buffkin came from behind the building and was using it for balance. Buffkin's speech was slurred, and she smelled of alcohol, the report said.
The Sentinel reports that the boy's 6-year-old brother also was found sleeping in bushes behind the store.
During Buffkin's arrest, she resisted arrest, yelled profanities and kicked the window bars in the back of the patrol car, making enough noise that several convenience store customers took notice, according to deputies. She faces child neglect and disorderly intoxication charges.
