PHOENIX -

Are you looking for love online? A new online dating study shows about half of the people online lie on their dating profiles.

But don't get too discouraged -- Phoenix has some of the most honest singles.

When it comes to an honest dating pool, Phoenix men and women rank near the top. A study by an online dating auction called whatsyourprice asked about 20,000 members if they lie on their dating profiles.

"I'd say at least 50 percent of the guys I've talked to have lied in some way or another on their online profile," says online dater Molly Wilson.

Many were not surprised that a study shows people lie on their online dating profiles.

However, the polls shows Phoenix men come in second only to Houston men when it comes to being honest on their profiles. Phoenix women came in 5th with 89 percent being honest.

The study found that overall 27 percent of women and 19 percent of men lie on their online dating profiles.

What do they lie about? Both lie about careers, women about their age -- while men lie about their height.

"I went on a date with a guy who said he was a TSA officer on an airline. No he wasn't, he works at Macy's -- 26-year-old living with his parents!" says Molly Wilson.

"I fudged a little bit on my profile because I didn't want the women to know how much money I actually made, I downgraded my salary," says Joe Bedard.

"I met this guy and he didn't tell me he had kids," says Nanette Gutierrez.

"Remember that one guy he was like maybe to my shoulder, maybe to my shoulder and you're telling me he was 6 foot tall?" says Wilson.

Phoenix matchmaker and dating coach Joann Cohen says she thinks the numbers of liars are actually higher.

"They're lying, but I don't think these people are dishonest, bad people stealing from charities. These are what's called strategic liars, they're trying to get a desired result for putting information down," says Cohen.

"I think maybe they can think personality can win you over. I'm not going to say it can't, but if you're not taller than me it's just not going to work," says Wilson.

The least honest cities to find online love? Washington DC, where 37 percent of men lie -- mostly about their career and education. Also, Las Vegas, where 39 percent of women lie mostly about their age and career.
