Report: Century 21 mislabels 'faux fur'

Report: Century 21 mislabels 'faux fur'

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Department store Century 21 was found to be selling items with labels that did not indicate there was real fur used, according to a five-month-long investigation by the Humane Society of NY and NY State Assembly member Linda Rosenthal.

New York State law requires labels indicate whether fake or real fur was used in the manufacturing of the product.

The undercover investigation found fur-trimmed coats and other items contained fur from Chinese raccoon dogs. Among the brands with no accurate label was Marc Jacobs, according to the report.'

Century 21 responded to the report published in Crain's NY Business:

"Century 21 does not create garment labels, the manufacturers do. It is the manufacturer's responsibility to provide an accurate account of materials used in the garment and to be transparent with the consumer before his or her purchase."
