Man dies after being shot outside Phoenix market

PHOENIX -

Authorities say a man has died after being shot in the head outside of a Phoenix market near 40th Street and McDowell Road.

Phoenix police say the man was found wounded in the Zam Zam World Foods' parking lot about noon Friday.

He was taken to an area hospital in extremely critical condition and later died.

Police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson says the name of the man hasn't been released yet.

Thompson says they don't have a suspect in the shooting or a possible motive at this time, but investigators believe the victim and the shooter knew each other and it wasn't a random shooting.

Two blocks of 40th Street to the north and south of McDowell were closed for several hours during the investigation.

If you have any information about this case, call the Phoenix police.
